Can aquarium snails carry a disease?
I just got 2 baby snails from a pet shop, they gave them to me for free because " they just come on the plants living plants and we don't even want them" .so I'm wondering if they may have been carrying something and the pet shop people didn't tell me, after i got them my Betta got sick, at first i thought it was just the cold, but then he got like, fungus on him earlier today, i got some stuff to help off my gf, but it was to late, i just cam home and he was dead.
Starting new aquarium and need suggestions. ( i am a begginer)?
So like i said i am a begginer and have been doing some research on this and need some advise. I just got a 29 gallon tank and all the accessories, now i know that i might be ahead of myself because i still need to let the tank cycle, but i need ideas of what to put in my tank. i would like a few different breeds, and want some of every level top swimmers, bottom swimmers and middle, what would be a good combo and how many of each?
PH won't increase above 6.2ish in my freshwater community aquarium?
I have a 37 gallon freshwater community aquarium w live plants and I just can't seem to increase the PH level above around 6.2. I've used several different test kits all with the same reading. I've used several types of 7.0 ph balancers. I've also bought PH increaser liquids...they never change the reading. I have african cichlids among a couple other types of fish, so ideally I would like the tank to be around 7.0 7.5. They fish seem happy and with no signs of stress but i would still like to bump it up a bit. There doesn't seem to be any obvious probelms...amonia readings are low and water is crystal clear. Any suggestions?Just wanted to add...never had a problem stablizing the ph to 7.0 in my old 20 gallon community tank, although that was with artifical plants. This is my first live plant tank so maybe that has something to do with it???
What type of fish could I have in a very small (1 gallon) aquarium?
I don't have very much space for the tank dorm room living , but I'd like to keep a fish. Also, a snail would be pretty cool, but I have no idea about how much space they need. Can anyone recommend species of fish snails that could live in such a small tank? Also, I do have an aerator, but do I need it for a 1 gallon?
Unfiltered 4 gallon aquarium for female betta & friends?
I am in the process of setting up a 4 gallon aquarium, but I have been thinking about getting a female betta & ghost shrimp 2 . That leaves each ghost shrimp 1 gallon and the betta fish 2 gallons. It is actually a 5 gallon tank, but the water level would reach to 4 gallons. It would be unfiltered, but I would do daily water changes with 100 percent change every weekend. There will be a heater My question is, would that be okay for the ghost shrimp? I read they need filtered water, but since these creatures don't produce a ton of waste The tank will be cycled first before getting them and i'd have an air pump in the water, and enough hiding places, would this be safe enough for them? Thanks Yea, I forgot that 100 percent can rid the tank of healthy bacteria. I'd just do 75 percent instead of 100. I was going to use the air pump for the ghost shrimp because I read they need that to breathe well enough. Thank you for correcting me on the water change. okay....
28L cube aquarium for 2 DPF and a Zebra Oto? (Maybe a question for catx??)?
Hi There.O.K, the aquarium I'm thinking of is 32cm x 32cm x 38cm, so its almost a cube. I've heard tales of 2 Dwarf Puffers being in aquariums as small as 18L and being fine, so I wondered if This would be alright. Another website I went on said that this should be fine the 2 DPF and Zebra Oto .I was wondering though what gender of Dwarf Puffer's I should get. I'm worried that 2 males will fight once they're older, but I don't want to get a male and female as I don't want babies. Therefore I wondered if 2 Females with the Zebra Oto would be o.k? What gender combination would you recommend? Thanks in advance, I hope Btw, I chose Zebra Oto they only grow to 4 5 cm and are known to get along with puffers, thats true, right? I've heard all over the web that Otos are the best tankmates apart from shrimp, though DPF have been known to eat them for DPF, thats true right?
Help treating ich in a 30 gallon freshwater aquarium?
I have a 30 gallon tropical freshwater aquarium with the following inhabitants 8 Zebra Danios 4 Otocinclus Cats 2 Boesemani Rainbowfish 8 Neon TetrasI put the neons in yesterday. They were healthy at the pet store and had been at the pet store for about two weeks, so they survived shipping well , but this morning I noticed one or two white bumps on each of the neons. I examined all the other fish carefully especially the rainbows... they cost $12 each but did not see any signs of ich on them.I REALLY want to nip this in the bud before any of my other fish get infected. So today I did a 25 % water change, turned off my carbon filter and lights, started slowly raising the temperature from 75 F I'll get to 85 F in a few days , and added a Malachite Green treatment. As none of the other fish in the tank are infected, I only added the recommended dosage for tetras which is half the recommended dosage for any other fish .So how to proceed from here? Should I start doing daily water changes? In what percentage? Should I continue adding a tetra sized dose of Malachite Green daily without water changes? The instructions didn't specify...

Aquarium Canister Filter Help!!!?
I purchased a canister filter off ebay and in every tray it has a white filter wool pad. Well the pads are dirty now and I want to use regular filter wool cause its WAY cheaper. Each Tray has a filter pad and a media. One has carbon then the next has ceramic rings and the last has a blue filter pad on top of a white one then some Seachem Matrix. Is all this even neccessary? Can I use 1 for carbon, 1 for bio media and 1 for filter wool? The filter is working great but its time to clean it.
